Standard Pressure Ratings of Ball Valves
1. Nominal Pressure (PN) Series (Applicable to GB/T and EN/DIN Standards)
PN is the most commonly used pressure marking method for ball valves in the domestic and European markets, referring to the nominal pressure at normal temperature as the benchmark. Conventional standard pressure ratings of ball valves cover: PN6, PN10, PN16, PN25, PN40, PN63 and PN100. Among them, PN16 and PN25 are the mainstream standard pressures for general-purpose ball valves, suitable for normal temperature and pressure scenarios such as municipal water supply and drainage, HVAC systems, and ordinary industrial pipelines. Ball valves with a pressure rating of PN40 and above are medium and high-pressure ball valves, specially used for high-pressure transportation of media such as steam, oil products and chemical media. All ball valves undergo strict shell strength and sealing performance tests in accordance with GB/T 13927, eliminating any unqualified pressure performance.
2. Class (Pound) Series (Applicable to ASME/ANSI Standards, Specially for Export)
For overseas export projects, ball valves adopt the American Standard Class pound pressure system. Common standard ratings include: Class 150, Class 300, Class 600, Class 900 and Class 1500. Among them, Class 150 (approximately equivalent to PN16) is the most commonly used pressure for export ball valves, suitable for conventional overseas industrial scenarios. High-class ball valves meet the demands of high-temperature, high-pressure and harsh working conditions such as petrochemical engineering, energy and offshore platforms. It should be noted that Class ratings are used in combination with pressure-temperature ratings, making them more suitable for scenarios with pressure and temperature fluctuations under complex working conditions. There is no precise equivalent conversion between Class and PN, only approximate reference to the corresponding PN rating.

Core Functions of Ball Valves
The core function of a ball valve is rapid opening and closing through a 90° rotation. Compared with traditional valves, it features more labor-saving operation and faster response. The pipeline can be fully opened or closed only by turning the handle or actuator for a short time, greatly improving pipeline control efficiency.
Ball valves adopt a full-bore design, which allows unobstructed medium flow and reduces pipeline energy consumption; the two-way sealing structure enables tight sealing regardless of medium flow direction, completely preventing leakage. Some customized ball valves can also realize medium flow regulation and flow direction switching functions to meet diverse control requirements.
Common Materials and Performance Differences of Ball Valves
In ball valve selection, cast iron and cast steel are recommended for conventional civil and general industrial scenarios, featuring high cost performance and excellent compression resistance, suitable for conventional media such as water, air and steam.
For corrosive medium scenarios, 304 and 316L stainless steel are adopted, which are acid and alkali resistant and rust proof, suitable for chemical engineering, seawater, sewage treatment and other scenarios.
For hygienic scenarios, food-grade stainless steel is used, with a smooth and dead-angle-free inner wall, complying with the hygiene standards for food, medicine and drinking water.
For special strong corrosion working conditions, fluorine-lined or rubber-lined materials are matched to further enhance corrosion resistance, suitable for strong acid, strong alkali and organic solvent media.
Sealing elements are also made of high-quality materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and hard alloy, balancing sealing effect and wear resistance.
